iPhone jailbreak iexplorer

The iPhone has been a game changer from the beginning, but many nay-sayers complain about the lack of user control that iOS devices suffer from. With many phones

Normally when you connect a storage device to a computer, you’re given the option of managing its files. You’re able to locate individual files for exporting and editing purposes. However, trying to attempt this with an Apple iOS device is a different story, since they aren't recognized as a mass storage device over USB. There are roundabout ways of bypassing this, but who really wants to mess around with that? We’d rather connect the iPhone and search our files through a Finder- or Explorer-like UI. Thanks to the guys over at Macroplant, you can now search your files on an iPhone.

Photo shows purported iPad 3 logic board featuring Apple A5X processor

Apple A5X processor

Alongside the iPad 3, Apple has been expected to introduce its next-generation mobile processor as well. The assumption was that it would be a quad-core A6 chip, naturally following the progression of the A4 chip that shipped in the original iPad, and the A5 chip that was included in the iPad 2. However, if the above image is to be believed, Apple won't be releasing the A6 processor with the iPad 3, and will instead go with the A5X processor. Why the difference? We figure that this matches recent reports that Apple would not be bumping the processor to quad-core in the iPad 3, and would instead ship a faster version of the A5 that has greatly improved graphics power.

Install Siri on any jailbroken iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with Spire

Siri Jailbreak

The first legal Siri port has been developed and released for jailbroken iPhone 4, iPhone 3G and 3GS, iPod touch 3rd and 4th generations, and both iPads, and it's called Spire. The way the tweak works is by using an external proxy server to mimic Apple’s own Siri servers, which are used exclusively for the iPhone 4S. Spire has a quick install and a simple setup that takes no time at all to get up and running. There are some minor issues with the method however, namely that for every iDevice connected to a proxy server, Apple is losing money. The problems don’t stop there though. This also leaves the "official" iPhone 4S Siri possibly open to vulnerability for use with these proxy servers, which can potentially lead to unreliability within the phone itself and possible personal information being leaked from all the connected devices.

Moving away from the negatives to the positive, looking at the Spire, it functions exactly like its older sibling for the iPhone 4S as you are not running it on the iPod Touch 3rd generation (the tweak takes full advantage of the external microphone.) Have you got Siri up and running on your jailbroken iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch?

Absinthe A5 iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak tool now available

Absinthe A5 jailbreak

Many iPad 2 owners have waited almost a full year for this moment, and it has finally come. Both the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S now have their own bona fide jailbreak tool in Absinthe A5. To be clear, Absinthe A5 is an untethered jailbreak method - this is the one you want, otherwise you have to have your iOS device connected to your Mac or PC with a cable whenever it boots up. This has no such requirement.

iOS hacker p0sixninja says that the jailbreak software works for A5 devices that are running iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1. If you've updated to the iOS 5.1 beta, then you're out of luck if you wanna jailbreak. Your best bet might be to downgrade. To get started, you'll need to download the latest version of greenpois0n, and it currently only works on a Mac (Windows is "coming soon".) The specific builds that are supported are iPhone 4S with iOS 5.0 build 9A334 and iOS 5.0.1 builds 9A405 and 9A406, as well as iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405.

Alongside the release of iBooks Textbooks this morning, Apple has also released an app called iBooks Author. Available for free on the Mac App Store, iBooks Author is a tool that allows anyone to create a textbook, storybook, or any other kind of book with relative ease. These books aren't just text either--you can add videos, 3D objects, photo galleries, web widgets, and more. Once you're satisfied with your book, you can then export it for personal use, or publish it to the iBookstore for sale or as a free download. Check out the video above for a full rundown of how it all works.

Apple looks to change education with iBooks Textbooks

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Corporate News, Handhelds,

Today Apple took the stage in New York City to unveil its education initiative, and at the heart of it all is the release of iBooks Textbooks. Textbooks require an iPad running iBooks 2, and Apple hopes this will open up a whole new world of learning to the masses. Bringing with them dynamic, interactive, and updateable content, textbooks on the iPad become instantly relevant and engaging. Apple also made sure to point out that an iPad is much lighter than a backpack full of heavy books. The video above demonstrates Apple's vision for the future of the textbook. iBooks 2 is available now, as are a handful of textbooks from publishers like DK, Pearson, McGraw Hill, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, focusing on the K-12 market for now. Textbooks are $14.99 or less, which is another breakthrough (although you won't be able to sell these back when you're done with them like you can an actual book.)

Apple also released iBooks Author, a free Mac app that lets anyone create an interactive book for the iPad. It's available now on the Mac App Store.
